All five Victorian Electricity Distributors have partnered to develop and launch an industry website, outlining installation requirements for civil contractors. The site also includes accreditation information for developers and others who are planning supply extension works.
The site can be accessed at www.vedn.com.au
The site supports a proposed initiative to introduce a state wide accreditation system, enabling civil contractors to tender and work on underground electricity assets in Victoria. It aims to increase the level of knowledge in installing underground electricity assets in new estates via a course carried out by an industry accredited learning institution. It also aims to ensure that all civil contractors wishing to participate in work opportunities in Victorian underground electricity distribution assets demonstrate compliance to an ISO quality system or equivalent that will include electricity industry requirements. These electricity industry requirements are mostly captured in a course delivered by an industry accredited learning institution.
The website contains instructions and application forms for companies who would like to be listed on a register. It also presents the requirements and supporting material available to the industry for accreditation, and it makes the register available to the general public for use in managing their development.
