Our innovative model allows multiple e-mobility service providers (EMSPs) to access each point. This creates new competition in the market and helps EV drivers to get the best deal when charging.

Charging FAQs

Some cars lock the cable to the car and charger when the vehicle is charging or locked. This is to prevent the cable from being disconnected while you’re away from the car. Try stopping the session and unlocking your car first, then remove the cable. Also, cars must be turned off to be able to remove the cable. 

Under the trial operating model, CitiPower and Powercor own and maintain the chargers but we do not operate them. You can see which charger point operators are participating in the table at the top of this page. We have also included links to download their apps.

Report a damaged charger through our EV charger fault report form.

Under the trial, our chargers require the EV driver to bring their own (BYO) Type 2 charging cable. It’s highly recommended that customers use a seven-meter cable to ensure it is long enough to cover all situations.

Unplug and reconnect the charging cable to both the charger and your car. 

  • If you’re using your own cable, try connecting it to the charger first, then the car. 

Make sure the charging connector is fully inserted and clicks into place. 

If this does not work, please contact your Charge Point Operator via the contact details in the app.

Most vehicles sold into the Australian market are only capable of charging at 6.4kW or 11kW AC. 

Depending on the battery size and charging speeds of the vehicle, approximately: 

6.4kW 8-10 hours 

22kW 3-5 hours

Our pole-mounted charger trial

We are deploying 100 pole-mounted electric vehicle (EV) chargers across our network.

The rollout is supporting motorists to switch to an EV; particularly people without access to off-street parking.

We are leveraging our existing infrastructure to install, own and maintain the 100 chargers over the life of the trial.

This allows new chargers to be rolled out quickly and cost effectively, with our resources on hand to fix any issues that arise.

Trial FAQs

We are rolling out 100 22/44kW AC chargers that attach to power poles and utilise existing electrical connections.

The pole-mounted chargers are being installed in built up areas where there is limited access to off-street parking, which makes it harder for people to switch to efficient, sustainable electric vehicles.

The technology is contained within a small box that is mounted to an existing power pole.

The chargers are simple to install and give EV drivers more flexibility when choosing how they charge their vehicle.

We will install the chargers where they are needed most. The trial will focus on the areas of our networks that have the highest rates of EV uptake and limited off-street parking. Locations can be found in the table above.

Locations will be selected sites near shopping centres or parks, where rates of EV ownership are high and there is limited off-street parking. This will maximise the benefits of the trial and demonstrate the potential of this technology.

We are partnering with e-mobility service providers (EMSPs) who will operate the chargers.

Allowing multiple EMSPs to access each point will maximise competition and deliver the most value for EV drivers.

EV drivers will use their preferred EMSP app to manage payment, locate the new points and assess the different offerings.

Charging costs will be determined by the e-mobility service providers (EMSPs) that we are partnering with throughout the trial. Allowing multiple EMSPs to access each point creates competition and ensure EV drivers get the best deal. Greater choice is in the best long-term interests for customers.

We are working with innovative electricity retailers to determine the best tariffs. This will include our Solar Soak tariff, which will allow cheap daytime electricity rates to be passed on to EV drivers.

The 22kW pole-mounted chargers provide the ability to charge an EV in three to four hours, however this can vary depending on the EV’s battery capacity and charging limit.
