Mildura power outage
Updates on the power outage in Mildura and surrounding areas after a vehicle collided with a power pole on Monday morning.
Increased and fast-tracked payments for customers affected by the Mildura outage
We are continuing to support Mildura customers impacted by last week's power outage caused by a car hitting a power pole.
Powercor is increasing and bringing forward Guaranteed Service Level (GSL) payments. Given the disruption and inconvenience caused by this outage, we have increased the payment amount for eligible customers from $90 to $380.
Eligible customers can apply now, with payments being processed from the end of this week.
Customers who don’t apply for the fast-tracked payment of $380 will ONLY receive a payment of $90 as a credit on their next electricity bill.
Apply here: www.powercor.com.au/mildura
In addition, customers can make claims to address damage to equipment, wiring and appliances as a result of the high voltage injection that occurred after the vehicle incident: Complaints and claims for compensation.
Powercor is also offering customers help when dealing with their insurance companies. We're happy to support insurance claims by providing a letter confirming the incident. You can request one here: Claims for compensation.
MILDURA!
We can’t thank you enough for your patience and how kind you’ve been to our crews on the ground over the past week.
We’re wrapping up our presence at the Alfred Deakin Centre this afternoon. Information and assistance remains available: Claims
Mildura weekend update:
All properties affected by Monday’s power outage were visited by our inspectors by Friday afternoon.
For those that missed us the first time around, all requests for immediate re-visits were completed by Saturday.
And for those properties we could not access and have not requested a re-visit, or requested a later re-visit, we’ve been reaching out to them directly to arrange one.
We’re keeping our inspectors in town throughout the week to make sure these re-visits occur as soon as those customers are ready.
We’re keeping our teams available at the Alfred Deakin Centre through Sunday and Monday to assist customers in-person with claims for damaged equipment and appliances.
Help with claims is also available on the phone during business hours at 13 22 06.
Update on restoration work in Mildura
Our crews are continuing to work as quickly and safely as possible today to attend the remaining properties affected by the Mildura outage that occurred after a car hit a pole.
Our teams have now attended over 2,500 properties to conduct individual safety checks before restoring power. They are expecting to attend the remaining 84 properties this afternoon.
Where possible, we are sending a text message to customers before our crews attend a property. If a customer is not home, we will leave a card with instructions on how to contact us to arrange another visit.
Crews will begin re-attending homes from this afternoon and will continue working throughout the weekend.
Our customer contact centre is operating and can be contacted on 13 24 12.
Thank you to the community for your continued patience during this complex outage.
Claims
Customers who have experienced appliance damage can apply for compensation through Powercor’s claims page or should contact their insurance company.
Claims are assessed in line with the Electricity Distribution Code of Practice, Schedule 4. Insurers may be able to replace an older appliance with a new one. We're happy to support your insurance claim by providing a letter confirming the incident. You can request one via our website or calling 1300 783 860 (8am to 5pm).

While we expect most customers to have power restored today, some may remain without supply if nobody is at the property when our crews attend, or if repairs are needed to internal wiring or customer-owned electrical equipment.
We will speak with customers directly if we attend their property and further steps need to be taken before we can re-energise their supply.

Powercor crews are continuing to inspect properties impacted by a power outage caused by a car crashing into a pole yesterday morning.
The crash resulted in a ‘high voltage injection’. Due to the nature of this fault, a Licenced Electrical Inspector may need to attend properties to complete safety checks. Because of this, restoration could take a number of days as our inspectors work as safely and as quickly as possible through impacted properties. Access will be required to electricity meters to complete these tests.
What is a high voltage injection?
Under normal operating conditions, high and low voltage powerlines are kept safely separated. However, in exceptional circumstances, such as the vehicle accident that occurred on Monday, a high voltage line may come into contact with a low voltage line. This means a higher-than-normal voltage enters the low voltage network and may result in damage to electrical wiring or connected equipment and has the potential to cause fires.
A relief centre has been set up at the Alfred Deakin Centre, 180-190 Deakin Avenue, Mildura. Powercor’s emergency response vehicle has been set up and will be providing free coffee, water, snacks and phone and device charging facilities.

Impacted customers will also be able to speak to Powercor staff in person to get up to date information and assistance.
Customers impacted by the outage are also asked to check their homes and businesses for any damaged switchboards, strange smells, or other damage, and to call Powercor as soon as possible on 13 24 12 to help inspectors work through impacted properties and speed up repairs.
Customers will continue to be updated via text message.
