In short:
Recruitment for one of Victoria’s longest running and most successful electrical trade apprenticeship programs is open for another year.
CitiPower and Powercor are seeking another 37 apprentices and trainees across the state for roles as lineworkers, cable jointers, substation electricians and protection and control testers.
New roles are up for grabs at Burnley, Brooklyn, Kyneton, Shepparton, Cobram, Echuca, Mildura, Maryborough, Ballarat, Horsham, Warrnambool, Colac and Geelong.
The recruits will join 146 apprentices and trainees already in the CitiPower and Powercor workforce, playing a critical role delivering essential power to more than 1.2 million homes and businesses.
Since 2001 almost 600 apprentices have started with the business, joining the workforce that supports communities with fault response, emergencies and extreme weather, new connections and critical maintenance works.
Head of Operations and Delivery, Barry David, said the annual apprenticeship program had been extremely popular for decades now.
“CitiPower and Powercor is a fantastic place to start and build your career,” Mr David said.
“The work our teams do matters and is essential to our communities, with our people helping keep homes and businesses connected to safe and reliable power every day.”
“We have many people who started with us as apprentices who are now in their 60s and still enjoying their career with us.
“Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a career change, we offer a place where you can build a secure and rewarding future.”
Mr David said with such a broad range of roles on offer, it was important to get a diverse mix of candidates to apply.
“We are looking for people who love being outdoors, love working in a team, are keen to learn and contribute to the communities they live in.”
“Some say we’re the ‘poles and wires’ company, but what we really are is a group of people who genuinely care about supporting our communities and each other, and we want more of those sorts of people to join us.
We encourage people of all ages, genders and backgrounds to apply.
To apply, candidates must have completed, or be completing, Year 11 VCE or VCAL and achieved a pass in General Maths/Numeracy or have completed (or be completing) a pre-apprenticeship TAFE training course in Electrotechnology (Cert II). The selection process involves written, practical and interview-based selection criteria.
Applications are now open and will close midnight on 28 July.
