Powercor is upgrading Ballan’s electricity network to keep power reliable and support homes and businesses.

On Tuesday, 26 May, crews will replace more than 2.2km of overhead powerlines in the town centre, as well as replace six poles and other equipment along Inglis Street, from Cowie Street through to Ingliston Road.

Powercor Project Manager Mitch Droney said this was one of the largest single-day upgrade projects ever done in the area in recent years.

“Homes and businesses rely on our network each day, and completing this essential work now helps keep power safe and reliable into the future,” Mr Droney said.

“This upgrade will make the network in Ballan stronger and more reliable and will deliver benefits as more people invest in electric vehicles, rooftop solar and other technology.”

To allow crews to complete the work safely, a planned power outage in Ballan between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm on the day is required. Powercor is installing generators to keep key local services running, including St Brigid’s Primary School, Ballan Primary School and Ballan Early Education.

The local IGA supermarket is also staying open for the day, using its own generators.

“We’ll have crews working in Ballan from across our network, including Ballarat, Brooklyn, Geelong and Kyneton,” Mr Droney said.

“We’ve scheduled all this work at once so customers only need to go through one planned outage, rather than having their power interrupted a few times.”

Powercor have notified affected customers well in advance of the works so they can prepare or make alternate arrangements.
