Powercor Stawell Gift

Essential as the Gift is to Stawell.

We love the Gift at Powercor.

It isn’t just Australia’s most prestigious professional foot race – it’s a slice of Australian culture, blending grassroots grit with elite competition. It’s where junior athletes, also backed by Powercor, get a chance to rub shoulders with their heroes and compete on the holy grail of Central Park.

It’s also an opportunity to galvanise community spirit and showcase the best on offer in Western Victoria. The event promotes tourism to Stawell and has a positive economic impact on surrounding regions.

It’s a legacy worth supporting.

Partnering with both the Men’s and Women’s races give us a major stake in an event that’s a lifeline for Stawell’s businesses and community. We’re not just slapping our name on a race but helping power a tradition that keeps the town thriving.

The Powercor Stawell Gift continues to champion gender parity, with male and female athletes competing for an equal prize pool.

In 2027, the Powercor Stawell Gift will be held on the Easter long weekend in March between Saturday, 27 March and Monday, 29 March.

About the Gift

The Powercor Stawell Gift has been held in all but five years since 1878, and is one of the world’s most famous and prestigious foot races.

Unlike the World Championships or Olympic Games which are conducted on synthetic rubber surfaces, the Powercor Stawell Gift is run on a grass track. For the majority of the year, Central Park in the regional town of Stawell is home to local AFL football and cricket, but at Easter time it transforms into an athletics mecca.

Athletes are handicapped according to form and ability, and start off varying marks. The main race is the Powercor Stawell Gift which is run over 120m up a slight gradient, and the final is traditionally held on Easter Monday.
