Notification of Generator Monitoring Meter testing

HomeNotification of Generator Monitoring Meter (GMM) testing

This month we will be testing your Generator Monitoring Meter (GMM) system as part of our work to maintain a safe and reliable electricity network.

Your GMM is connected to your solar generation system and allows us to remotely disconnect it from the grid. This helps us to manage grid stability at certain times.

We will be testing to make sure the control signals from our network can successfully transmit to the GMM and that your generation system can respond appropriately.

Why is this needed?

We are required to conduct this testing by the Victorian Government.

The GMM system is an essential part of how we will manage a Minimum System Load (MSL) event which occurs when there is an excess amount of electricity generation in the grid.

During an MSL event we will send signals to your GMM device to remotely disconnect your solar generation for a short period of time to help manage the amount of power in the electricity grid.

Test details

We will hold the test during daylight hours on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

What to expect

  • Your generation will be interrupted for a short period during the test.
  • Power supply to your site will not be affected.
  • The test will be conducted remotely.
  • Once the test is complete, your generation capability will be automatically restored. If your generation capability is not automatically restored, please contact us on 13 24 12.
  • We expect the test will take between one to two hours.
