Energy demand is growing across Collingwood and Fitzroy, so we’re working hard to upgrade our network to keep electricity supplies reliable for everyone.
We’re building more capacity in the local network to support the exciting growth of vibrant education, residential and commercial developments in the neighbourhood. Our crews will commence work from March 2021 and we anticipate the project to be completed by August 2021.
We are installing approximately 1.3 kilometres of new underground cables with the capacity to meet current and future electricity demand in Collingwood and the surrounding area.
The construction works will begin from the Collingwood Zone Substation on Langdridge Street, connecting new commercial and residential developments along the planned route. The second stage of works will connect the new Australian Catholic University site on Victoria Parade.

As we install the underground cables, there will be some disruption to traffic, local parking and power supply. We will be working closely with residents and businesses to minimise the impact. Working steadily along the cable route, any disruptions or changes to traffic will be in place for only a few days at a time. Traffic controllers and signage will be available to help motorists, pedestrians and cyclists remain safe in changed road conditions.
We expect the majority of our work to take place during the day, but there may be some instances where we must complete night works. We will provide notice about this and any necessary planned power outages well in advance.
Keeping you informed
We are here to chat with the local community throughout the project. We will notify local residents and businesses affected by each stage of works before we begin.
